Crafts & Activities

Theme related children's crafts and activities for children's birthday parties.

Star Wars Badges
Get your guests in the spirit of the latest Star Wars saga with this fun craft project. Before the party, cut out badges from construction paper. Provide the kids with Star Wars stickers, extra paper, glue, scissors, glitter, markers, crayons, magazine pictures, etc., and encourage creative expression. During the party, hand out extra badges as favors while playing games. When giving out the badges, honor the kids with special awards, i.e., Best Yoda Impression, Best Team Player, Most Infectious Giggle, or Biggest Smile.

Moon Rock Hunt
Purchase small treats or gifts and wrap them in aluminum foil. Hide them in a sandbox, around the house or in the yard. At the party, let the children dig in the sand, or search throughout your “planet” to find their “moon rocks.” They will love the excitement of opening their rocks and finding treasures!

Make A Spaceship
Create your own unique spaceship with a large appliance box, aluminum foil, tape, scissors, markers, and posterboard. Cut a large hole for a door hatch, but leave one side attached so it will fold back to close. Cut out a few portholes and make a cone nose for the top using posterboard. Then, cover the entire spaceship with aluminum foil, taping it in place.

Your guests will love using their imaginations to think of games to play in the spaceship, and it will provide hours of fun during and after the party. For fun, take a photo of each guest inside the spaceship and send it to them later as a party favor!

Space Walk
Cut four rock shapes (about 15” in diameter) from posterboard and cover them with aluminum foil. These will be your “space rocks.” At the party, divide your guests into two teams and establish a start/finish line. Give the first player on each team two space rocks. The first person in line must place a space rock in front of him and step on it. Then, he must place the second space rock in front of the first and step from the first rock to the second, and so on. This continues until he has walked across your “planet” around a designated point and returned to his team. The next player in line must do the same, until each player on the team has had a turn. The team to finish first, wins!

Star Wars Message Mix-Up
Seat your guests in a circle. The birthday child thinks of a message and whispers it to the person on his left. When the message has traveled all the way around the circle, the guest on the birthday child’s right says the message aloud. Then, the birthday child tells the original message. Everyone’s sure to giggle when they hear the final, mixed-up message! Try again with another player starting a new message.

Face Painting
Purchase a set of face paints and give each guest a unique alien “look.” Let each child make up an alien name for himself or create a few of your own and let the kids draw names randomly. Use movie names or your own, such as “Zork,” “Murblap,” or “Gondar.”

Floating Spaceships
Pass out large balloons to each guest. Help your guests blow up their balloons and tie them. The object of this game is to launch the ”spaceships” up in the air and keep them afloat for the longest amount of time. This is a fun way to start or end a party!

Delectable Treats
Queen Amidala's Favorite Fruit Punch
You will need: 1-10 oz. package frozen strawberries (partially thawed); 1-10 oz. package frozen raspberries (partially thawed); 1-12 oz. can frozen lime juice concentrate; 1-32 oz. bottle of ginger ale (chilled); 1-32 oz. bottle of club soda (chilled); and 1 pint vanilla ice cream. Puree fruit in a blender and combine with the lime juice concentrate. Chill for at least one hour. Pour mixture into a punch bowl, add ginger ale, club soda and scoops of vanilla ice cream.

Alien Face Pizzas
You will need half an English muffin for each child. Split muffins in half; top with pizza sauce and grated cheese. Give each guest a muffin half and let them design their own space creature using pepperoni, sliced olives, sliced mushrooms, pieces of green pepper or onion, etc. Bake on a cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 5-10 minutes, or until cheese melts.

Fruit Light Sabers
For this healthy snack, you’ll need kabob skewers and a selection of your child’s favorite fruits. Spear melon balls, slices of banana, berries, apple chunks, pineapple, etc., on the skewers. For fun, stick all the “light sabers” in the rind of an upside-down melon half. The visual effect is best if all the fruits are arranged in the same order. After the children have pulled their own light sabers from the melon half, help them remove the fruit from if the skewers if they are sharp.

Alien Ooze
Here’s a party favorite that’s sure to please all your space creatures. Before the party, add a few drops of green food coloring to a bottle of lemon-lime soda. At the party, fill clear glasses half-full with the green soda while the kids watch. Then add one scoop of chocolate chip mint ice cream and carefully add more soda. The kids will love watching the ice cream float to the top and settle amid all that tasty green ooze. Serve with long handled spoons for fun.

Jedi Knight Energy Pops
After a day of traveling the galaxy, your little jedi knights will need to replenish their energy! To prepare, melt 1/4 cup margarine and one 10-oz package of miniature marshmallows over medium heat in a saucepan or microwaveable container. Stir constantly, so the mixture does not burn. Slowly add 6 cups crispy rice cereal, and mix until cereal is evenly coated. Remove the pan from heat. And add 1 cup of your child’s favorite treat, such as small chocolate candies, butterscotch chips, peanuts, or raisins. Spoon mixture into small paper cups (wax-lined cups prevent pops from sticking) and press lightly to fill. Insert a popsicle stick into each cup and press mixture again. Cool and refrigerate until party time. Makes 12 energy pops.

Yoda’s Special Ice Cream Sundaes
Bake your favorite brownie recipe, or follow the directions on a package of brownie mix. When brownies are cool, cut them into squares and place one in the bottom of each child’s bowl. Add scoops of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and top with a cherry!
