Mysterious Meow
To play this game, kids form a circle in an open playing area. Blindfold one child and lead him or her to the center of the circle.

To start, players move around the perimeter of the circle very quietly until you tell them to stop. Then, the blindfolded child moves toward the outside of the circle until he or she touches a player. After being found, a player must say “Poor Kitty” in a disguised voice, and make his or her best cat “meow.” If the blindfolded child fails to identify the player, he or she releases them and the game continues. If the blindfolded child identifies the player, the two change places.

Colorful Chinese Lanterns
This simple craft project is a great activity to set the mood for your Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat party, and teaches your guests about another culture. You’ll need several different colors of 8.5” x 11” paper, glue, scissors and markers or theme-related stickers. Follow the directions below to make a few paper lanterns before the party. They make wonderful decorations, and will inspire your guests to be creative while making theirs.

Invite your guests to decorate one side of a sheet of paper. When finished, fold each sheet in half lengthwise. Cut 3-inch slits into the fold, parallel to the short edges. Start about an inch from one edge and continue making slits along the length of the paper, leaving 1/2 inch between each slit.

After all the slits have been cut, unfold the paper and glue the short edges together to form a cylinder. (The folded edge will point outward in the middle.) The slits will make the folded edge “fan” out to look like a Chinese lantern. Finish the lanterns by gluing a paper handle to the top of each one. Hang and enjoy!

Cat Collars
Purchase lengths of craft foam to make collars for the friendly felines at your party! Provide stickers, markers, faux gems, fabric scraps, glue/tape, glitter, etc. that your guests can use to decorate the collars. The kids will enjoy wearing them throughout the party, and you can use them in the next game!

Catch the Kitty Ring Toss
For this game, you’ll need several stuffed cats and the collars from the previous activity. Set up the cats in a row, placing them atop boxes to position them at different levels; stack boxes if necessary. Use the collars as tossing rings, and give the kids a chance to see how many cats they can “catch”!

Curious Cat Treasure Hunt
Before the party, devise a series of clues that will lead your guests from one place to the next. Make clues on construction paper shaped liked cats or large paw prints. You can also write clues on plain tags and tie them to stuffed cats that double as party favors (as long as there are the same number of cats as guests.)

Before guests arrive, hide the clues in their appropriate spots. Begin the game by giving the kids a clue leading them to the first cat (or paw print). This will lead them to the next one, and so on, until they find the final treasure (birthday cake, stash of theme-related candy or toys, etc.)!

Give your party an authentic Chinese touch by providing chopsticks for the kids to use with at least one dish. Even if your guests aren’t very skilled at using them, they’ll love the challenge!

Chinese Chicken Salad
Set the mood with this delicious Asian-inspired dish that your guests are sure to love!

To begin, combine 2 cups sweet and sour sauce (or plum sauce) and a pinch of ground ginger in a large bowl; mix well. Add 1 cup shredded cabbage and 1 cup fresh bean sprouts to the sauce.

Shred or dice 4 cooked boneless chicken breast halves; add to the veggies and mix well.

Cook 2 (3-oz.) packages of chicken-flavored ramen noodles; drain and add them to the mixture.

Mix well and top with your choice of: 1/4 cup sliced green onions, 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, 1/8 cup sesame seeds, 1/4 cup toasted sliced almonds or 1/2 cup corn flakes. Enjoy!

Fu-Fu's Bat Chips
Your guests will love these snacks inspired by Sagwa’s best friend, Fu-Fu the bat. To make them, you’ll need fresh tortillas, olive oil, and salt.

On the party day, use a bat-shaped cookie cutter to cut bat shapes from several tortillas. Lightly brush each side of the bats with olive oil and arrange them on a baking sheet. Broil the bats in a hot oven, turning them over once they begin to brown. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with salt while they are still warm. For variety, make cat shapes as well. Serve plain or with salsa, sour cream or dip!

The Cat’s Meow Lemonade
This refreshing party drink is a true delight! To make it, combine 2 cups of sugar, 1 cup lemon juice, and the juice from 6 freshly squeezed lemons. Stir until sugar dissolves completely.

Pour the mixture into a 2-quart container and fill with cold water. Add ice to cool. Makes 12 (8 oz.) servings. For the finishing touch, pour lemonade into a punch bowl and add a few drops of yellow food coloring to create a colorful and tasty treat!

Paw-Print Cookies
Make your favorite sugar cookie recipe or purchase ready-made dough. Roll dough into balls and gently flatten to a 1/4 inch thick with a flat object (the bottom of a glass works well). Let kids make their own paw print using their thumb for the center of the paw, and their fingertips for toe marks. When the kids are finished, bake and enjoy!

Cat Cake
Bake your child’s favorite cake in two round cake pans; cool, stack and frost as desired. Then, draw a cat face on top using additional frosting, or create a face with candies. Use round cookies for eyes and a black gumdrop for the nose. Spaghetti licorice whips make great whiskers and frosted tortilla chips look just like ears. Be creative and have fun!
