Crafts & Activities

Theme related children's crafts and activities for children's birthday parties.

Monster Masks
As your guests arrive, transform them into hideous beasts with a mask-making activity!

Provide pre-made masks from a hobby store or make your own using plain paper plates and elastic cord. If you choose to make your own, cut the plates in oval shapes, using the size of your child’s head as a guide. Cut slits for eyes, an evil mouth, etc. Attach the elastic cord near the ears.

Set out markers, glue, faux fur, colored paper, scraps of fabric, etc. for decorating the masks. Turn on a spooky soundtrack to set the mood! (For young guests, decorate masks for each child before the party. Hand them out as they arrive or use them as place settings at the party table.)

Scared Silly!
This is a great idea for simple party favors to remind your guests what a frighteningly good time they had at your party. First, lay a white sheet on the floor for guests to lay on. Spread each guest’s hair straight up and fan it out; provide a wig for kids with short hair. Encourage gruesome facial expressions, or use the masks from the previous activity. Take pictures from directly above. Use Polaroid film for instant fun, or use a digital camera to send pictures over the Internet later. Everyone will enjoy seeing themselves with their hair standing on end, looking “scared to death.”

Eyeball Relay
Purchase bloodshot eyeballs from a hobby store or make your own using ping pong balls and markers. Divide your guests into equal teams and line each team up with a spoon and an eyeball.

The first person on each team must balance the eyeball on the spoon as they walk the length of the room and back. Dropped eyeballs must be retrieved with the spoon! All team members must complete the course; the first team to finish wins!

Monster Moans
You won’t have to peek in the closet or look under the bed to find any monsters with this fun game. All you’ll need is a blindfold, glow sticks and some creative minds to make monstrous fun!

First, clear the party area of all objects the kids could trip on. Dim the lights and give everyone a glow stick or glow necklace to create a spooky aura. Blindfold the birthday child and tell your party guests to spread out around him or her, staying within the designated area.

The game begins as guests walk around like monsters, with arms outstretched (moaning softly if they wish). When the blindfolded child tags someone, that monster must moan and groan in a frightening way. If the birthday child guesses who the monster is, they trade places. If the birthday child does not guess who the monster is, he or she remains blindfolded and the game continues.

Stick the Eye on the Monster
This twist on an old favorite will bring a smile to every face! Draw a big picture of a one-eyed monster on a large piece of poster board, leaving an empty space where its eye should be located. Mount the poster on the wall. Cut out an eye for each party guest from construction paper and put double-stick tape on the back. Give each child a chance to stick his or her eye on the monster, while blindfolded. Whoever comes closest, wins!

Pinatas

Star Piņata

19" Star Piñata

Pinata Fillers

Kids love the excitement of trying to break open a piñata and see the treasures rain down. This 96-piece assortment of toys and candy is perfect for eight guests, and will bring even more fun to your piñata activity.

Pull-String Piñata Kit
Turn your piñata into a pull-string for a gentler piñata activity. Kit includes trap door release and 20 pull strings.

Tasty Treats And Menu Ideas

Scary Sandwiches
For food that’s fit for your little monsters, serve up these wonderful worm-filled sandwiches. To make them, slice hot dogs into thin, worm-like lengths. Microwave them until they begin to curl. Place 4 or 5 worms between two slices of bread, allowing the ends of a few worms to wiggle out for added effect. Add lettuce and a few squiggles of ketchup if your guests wish.

Surprise Punch
Your guests are in for a surprise with this crazy concoction! You’ll need grape Kool-Aid® (or juice), club soda, grapes and an apple. Mix 32 oz. purple grape juice with 16 oz. club soda in a punch bowl. Slice the apple in teeth-like chunks and peel the grapes for a slimy touch. (For younger kids, cut the grapes in half.) Just before serving, add the edible teeth and eyeballs to your punch!

Monster Brain Vegetable Dip
Cut the top from a small pumpkin or gourd, and remove the insides. Make your favorite vegetable dip, tint it with food color, and fill the empty gourd.

Draw or paint a scary monster face on your pumpkin, or create facial features using fruits and vegetables: string beans (hair), raisins (nostrils), peas (pupils), round carrot slice (eyes), dried apple (ears), etc. attaching them with tooth picks or glue.

Serve on a large tray with carrot sticks, pieces of celery, crackers and other snack food your child enjoys. Your guests will love dipping their food in the monster’s brain!

Slimy Eyeball Salad
To make this slimy delicatessen, you’ll need whipped cream, small round candies, and your favorite flavors of Jell-O® (lime and grape make the best-looking combination).

Make equal quantities of your chosen Jell-O® flavors. When both have set, mash each up separately and layer them alternately in a large clear bowl. Top with round blobs of whipped cream to make eyeballs. Place a small candy in the center of each eyeball for the pupil. Serve and enjoy!

Eye Scream Sundaes
Although your guests won’t find this treat scary at all, don’t be surprised if they scream for more!

Before the party, scoop round balls of vanilla ice cream and set them on a tray. Push a black jelly bean in the center of each scoop so it looks like an eyeball; return the tray to the freezer.

When it’s time to eat, set up a sundae-making bar on a well-covered table. Set out bowls of toppings, labeling them for more fun: strawberry syrup (blood), dried apples (ears), mini marshmallows (teeth), candy corn (fingertips), chocolate syrup (monster blood), etc. Serve each guest one or two ice cream eyeballs and let them top it off with the gruesome body parts of their choice!
