Crafts & Activities

Theme related children's crafts and activities for children's birthday parties.

Building Contest
For this game, pair up your party guests and give each pair the same number of LEGO pieces. (Start out with 7-10 bricks, and if you find that the game is too easy for the kids, add more.) Let each pair decide who will be the builder and who will be the helper. Once the players have made this decision, blindfold all the builders.

The object of the game is to see which team can build a box (or other simple object) given a time limit of 2 or 3 minutes. The builder listens to the helper, who describes what piece they need to feel with their fingers and where to put it; the helper may not touch the LEGO. You many find it helpful to start each pair off with a base to build on (i.e. first level of the box, or other object).

For older children, build a model of a house or car. You can decide whether or not to allow the builders to see the model before blindfolding them. Then, give the teams two minutes to see how close they can come to copying the model, abiding by the same rules. Your guests will giggle when they see the creations they end up with!

Pop For Your Prize
Before the party, gather favors (stickers, small LEGO bricks, theme-related message, etc.) and insert each one into a balloon that hasn’t been inflated. Then, fill the balloons with air and decorate the party area as you normally would.

When you’re ready to play the game, take the balloons down and tie a large rubber band or a piece of string to each one. Then, give each player a balloon and tie it to his or her ankle. The object of the game is to try and pop other players’ balloons without letting them pop yours. The last player with an inflated balloon is the winner!

Grab Bag
For this game, you’ll need a large bowl and lots of small edible filler, such as mini marshmallows, cereal, trail mix, etc. Fill the bowl with the treats and give each child an empty loot bag and a spoon. When you say go, the children have until the count of 15 (or whatever time you determine) to scoop as much as they can into their bags!

Building Brick Bingo
This one is fun for the whole group! Simply use bingo grids of your own, or make some out of construction paper. If you choose to make your own, cut the paper into squares (about 6” x 6”). Draw evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines to make grids; in the spaces, print numbers in random order. For young children, limit the numbers to 1 through 15; for older kids, go higher. Remember to include some “free” spaces for fun.

Write the numbers written on the grids on small slips of paper, and put them into a hat. At the party, give each child a bingo grid and a pile of LEGO bricks to cover numbers as they are drawn from the hat and called out.

To give the game a fun twist, tell players to yell “LEGO” when they have bingo (completely covered horizontal, vertical or diagonal row of bricks). Award small theme-related prizes when players get bingo, or let each winner draw the next round of numbers from the hat and call them out!

Pinatas

Piņatas

Pinata Fillers

Kids love the excitement of trying to break open a piñata and see the treasures rain down. This 96-piece assortment of toys and candy is perfect for eight guests, and will bring even more fun to your piñata activity.

Pull-String Piñata Kit
Turn your piñata into a pull-string for a gentler piñata activity. Kit includes trap door release and 20 pull strings.

Tasty Treats And Menu Ideas

Building Brick Cake
Delight your party guests with this fun and easy cake that looks just like a LEGO building brick! To make it, you will need one 9” x 13” sheet cake, six cupcakes, and approximately 3 cups of frosting.

Directions:
1. Make your child’s favorite cake, or purchase Pillsbury® cake mix. Follow instructions and bake in a 9” x 13” sheet cake pan.
2. Bake your child’s favorite cupcakes. If you use Pillsbury® cake mix, the recipe will make more than six; freeze remaining cupcakes.
3. Carefully remove all cakes from pans when completely cool. Place sheet cake on a large tray.
4. Cut off the rounded top on each cupcake, so each one is flat and smooth; discard the tops.
5. Make 3 cups of vanilla frosting, or purchase Pillsbury® Vanilla Frosting. Tint bright green, red, or yellow with several drops food coloring.
6. Frost sheet cake. Place the six cupcakes in two rows on top, like a LEGO brick, and frost!

Ham & Cheese Roll-Ups
To make these delicious mealtime snacks, simply purchase your favorite brand of hot dogs, cheese, and refrigerator croissants. Slice hot dogs lengthwise and cut cheese into strips. Unroll croissants and stuff them with hot dogs and cheese. Roll croissants back up and bake as directed, or until golden

Creative Fruit Cars
In the spirit of LEGO, create a treat your guests can play with, and even build themselves. You will need pretzel sticks, bananas and a ripe melon.

First, use a melon baller to scoop out melon balls. Push a melon ball on each end of a pretzel stick to make wheels and axles. Halve each banana and place on a pair of axles to make the car’s body.

Make at least one fruit car for each guest. For more fun, carve a driver’s seat in each banana and add a LEGO person. Place the cars around a tray, as if they are driving around a track!

Rainbow Soda
This colorful drink takes some advance preparation, but the result is well worth your time. A few days before your party, freeze several of your child’s favorite Kool-Aid® flavors (berry, orange, lemon, lime, grape, etc.) in ice cube trays. Be sure to fill trays half-full so more colored cubes will fit in each child’s glass.

When it is time to serve, place all the colored ice cubes in a large bowl and let your guests fill their own glasses. (Tall, clear cups work well.) Pour lightly-colored soda over the cubes to make a rainbow!
