Theme related children's crafts and activities for children's birthday parties

Dark Universe
Turn your party room into an outer space adventure for your guests by covering the windows with black gardening plastic. Stick glow-in-the-dark stars and planets to the ceiling or hang them to create a three dimensional effect. Use a black light to make light-colored objects glow. Decorate the door to the party room like a rocket, or hang black streamers that the kids will have to walk through. As each guest arrives, give them a glow-in-the-dark necklace or bracelet to guide them on their way as they blast off into your dark universe!

Pin the Eyes on the Alien
Before the party, draw an alien face on a large piece of butcher paper, you can even decorate the background with stars and planets to look like outer space. Then, cut out a pair of eyes for each guest. At the party, mount your alien on the wall and give each player a pair of eyse with a piece of tape stuck on the back.

One at a time, blindfold your guests and give them a chance to stick their eyes of the alien. It is loads of funs to see the alien with many sets of eyes all over his head by the time everyone has had a turn.

Space Rock Hunt
Purchase small treats or gifts and wrap them in aluminum foil. Hide them in a sandbox, around the house or in the yard. At the party, let the children dig in the sand, or search throughout your “planet” to find the “space rocks.” They will love the excitement of opening their rocks and finding treasures!

Rocket Spaceship
Create your own unique rocket spaceship with a large appliance box, aluminum foil, tape, scissors, markers, and posterboard. Cut a large hole for a door hatch, but leave one side attached so it will fold back to close. Cut out a few portholes and make a cone nose for the top of your rocket using posterboard. Then cover it with aluminum foil, taping the foil down.

Your guests will love using their imaginations to think of games to play in the rocket, and it will provide hours of fun during and after the party. Remember to take a photo of each guest inside the rocket and send it to them later as a party favor!

Alien Face Pizzas
Give your little space creatures something to phone home about with these delicious pizzas that are lots of fun to make! You will need half an English muffin for each child. Split muffins in half and top with prepared pizza sauce and shredded cheese. Give each child a muffin half and let them decorate it however they wish. Use pepperoni, sliced olives, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, green peppers, etc. to make alien face designs. Bake at 375 degrees F on a cookie sheet for 5-10 minutes, or until cheese melts. Enjoy!

Flower Pot Treats
Inspired by the symbolic potted plant in the classic boy-meets-alien movie, these flower pot desserts are a perfect take-home treat that will remind your guests of your special E.T. party!

For each guest you’ll need a plastic flower and a small terra cotta or metal flower pot. You’ll also need a package of gummy worms and several cups of crushed chocolate cookies (Oreo® cookies or chocolate graham crackers work well).

Crush the cookies to make dirt for your potted plants. Clean the flower pots and fill the bottom of each with crushed cookies. For fun, add a gummy worm and cover it with more “dirt.” Insert a flower into each pot and let the birthday child decorate the outside of each one with stickers. Send each party guest home with a flower pot treat.

Note: If you choose to serve these as a treat at your party, consider serving them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a separate bowl. Let the kids add dirt and worms to make a silly sundae!

Cosmic Soda
Create a drink that hints at life beyond the outer limits. Freeze red fruit punch in star-shaped ice trays. Serve 2 or 3 red star ice cubes in a glass of clear or light-colored soda. The cubes will sparkle and tumble around the glass like shooting stars!

E.T.'s Heart Cookies
Everyone remembers E.T.’s glowing red heart, so these treats are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face. Simply make your favorite sugar cookie recipe, or buy pre-made dough. Roll out the dough, cut cookies into hearts, and bake as directed. Prepare icing by sifting confectioners’ sugar into a bowl. Slowly add hot water and mix until it becomes a smooth paste. Add red food coloring; mix well. When the cookies have cooled, cover with icing and sprinkle with granulated sugar or sprinkles so they shimmer like E.T.’s heart!

4. Focus on small groups or individuals, you do not need to have every guest in every photo.
5. When you have your film developed, order extra prints and send them to the parents afterward.
